Role: AI Operations Lead
Location: Boston, MA
Salary: Up to $225,000 + early-stage equity + Healthcare
We're partnering with an ambitious technology company developing some of the world's most advanced scientific and computing platforms.
They're looking for an AI Operations Lead to help shape how artificial intelligence is integrated into the operation of highly sophisticated hardware systems. This isn't about adding AI features—it's about identifying where AI can improve calibration, diagnostics, prediction and operational decision-making across complex engineering environments.
If you're excited by solving real-world problems where AI meets advanced hardware, controls engineering and scientific software, this is an opportunity to make a real impact from day one.
You'll ideally come from a technical leadership or senior individual contributor background, delivering AI/ML solutions within complex engineering, scientific, robotics, controls, manufacturing or hardware environments.
Why Join?
Play a key role in establishing AI Operations within the business.
Work at the forefront of AI, advanced hardware and scientific computing.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams on cutting-edge technology.
Join an early-stage, well-funded business offering meaningful equity.
Solve challenging engineering problems using AI in real-world applications.
The Opportunity
You'll help develop the roadmap for AI-assisted operations, identifying where machine learning can deliver measurable improvements while ensuring deterministic control systems remain responsible for safety and execution.
What You'll Be Doing
Help define and deliver the AI Operations roadmap.
Identify opportunities for AI across calibration, diagnostics and operational workflows.
Lead AI projects from concept through to deployment.
Support best practices around model validation, observability, explainability and deployment.
Drive improvements in system performance, fault diagnosis, drift detection and operational efficiency.
Work closely with engineering teams to ensure AI enhances—but never compromises—safe deterministic control systems.
What We're Looking For
Essential
Experience leading a AI team of 8 or less or delivering AI or machine learning initiatives within complex engineering, hardware, robotics, manufacturing, scientific or industrial environments.
Experience deploying production AI systems where reliability, safety and traceability are important.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
A systems-thinking approach with the ability to balance innovation and operational reliability.
Nice to Have
Experience with one or more of the following:
Bayesian optimisation
Active learning
Time-series forecasting
Computer vision
Anomaly detection
Root cause analysis
Embedded software
Real-time control systems
If you're passionate about applying AI to solve complex engineering challenges and want to help shape the future of advanced computing, we'd love to hear from you.
Please only apply if you're already based in the USA.
